Your Say – Francesca Woods
Lawyer and Co-Founder of Franjo’s Kitchen
To me success means…
Freedom, flexibility and joy.
Best advice I’ve been given…
To evaluate your options, make a decision and then commit to it.
I made my first dollar:
Performing plays in my living room and charging the audience.
The most rewarding part of my job…
That I don’t consider what I do a job. I love both aspects of my working life and feel hugely privileged to be able to help support and nourish new mothers and also continue my professional career as a lawyer.
Favourite book:
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara.
My goals for 2019 are…
Scale Franjo’s, achieve some personal financial goals and practise yoga once a week.
The women who inspire me:
Too many to name. I am inspired by hard working entrepreneurs, working mothers and business owners striving to combine ethical choices with business objectives.
The gender stereotype I can’t stand:
Actually that we are equal. We aren’t, women face so many barriers that men don’t. We are a long way from equality.
The main challenge for women in business is…
I take a personal view to this one. For me, it has been motherhood. My children motivate me, but also my role as a mother has meant I haven’t had the opportunity to throw myself into my business in the same way as I could have if I was childless or a man.
We need pay equality because…
It is ludicrous that there isn’t.
Gender diversity in the workplace is…
Not relevant. The right person should be chosen for the right role, regardless of gender. In saying that, it is really important that there is diverse representation so that our children can see the options available for them.
I advocate for change by…
Trying to make the right choices. Teaching my children. Learning and being a little bit better every day.
The change I want to see in 2019 is…
Focus on the environment. I am such a hypocrite in saying this as I don’t make the right choices here, but we must collectively do better.
