Hair There: Bobs, Beach Waves, Curtain Bangs And Warm Hues
Bobs, beach waves, curtain bangs and warm hues – we saw a lot of these trends dominate the social media scene this year. In this issue of M2woman, we ask the experts on what they envision to be trendy as we lean into the beach season.
There’s a huge swing to embracing your natural texture especially as Summer comes around,” says Giles Robinson, Global Director of Training and Education for Colorwow. Alongside the effortless lived in look which we see continuing to be the it-girl vibe, we are also seeing polished styles from the 90’s return. “Think clean blunt lines and shiny instead of matte,” says Nicole Kae from the evo Creative Team. “Colour panels with a nod to the 90’s are back. Go for tendril fringe pieces or for a softer version, grown out curtain bangs.”
Living in the new fast-paced modern world where trends are turning over faster than ever before, keeping on top of it all can be be a difficult task. Jordan Thomas, ghd ANZ Education Executive, spills the beans on how to recreate a voluminous and natural effect for each hair type.
Just Work It
“To work with what you have naturally been given, I would recommend using a diffuser attachment. This will not only speed up drying time and work with your natural wave pattern, but also reduce frizz and flyaways. Once dry, you will be able to see the texture you’re working with and work visually, picking up random sections that look like they need some extra love.”
Ghd Wish Upon A Star Helios Professional Hair Styler, $330; Diffuser attachment, $42; Colorwow Dreamcoat Supernatural Spray, $62.95
Lived In Locks
“For those wanting that lived-in, next day kind of vibe I’d recommend using a curling wand to wrap half the hair in one direction, releasing, shaking it out and then wrapping the other half in the opposite direction. This will give the illusion of ‘natural’ movement.”
Expert Tips “If you have a natural movement to your hair, try not to ‘faff‘ with it too much! Resist the urge to continuously touch your hair whilst styling and running your hands through your hair during the day,”
Curl and Twirl
“If you have super curly or textured hair, pick up random sections and wrap around a chop stick, then heat it up with a straightener and allow the hair to cool and unwind. This will emulate your natural hair but add more shine and definition.”
Expert Tips “Dyson Corrale Straightener, $749, changes the game with flexing plates that gathers hair and cordless freedom.
Fine To Rise
“If your hair is naturally poker straight, we don’t want an early 2000’s renaissance where we saw straightened hair with randomly placed curls. That was bad. For this hair type, it’s all about having soft movement throughout the hair. Use ghd’s Rise, $310, on the mid-lengths to ends while alternating the direction. Wrap the hair round once, glide down, unwind and repeat.
Leaving the roots natural will give you a more head hugging silhouette.”
Hot In Hair
If using curling tongs and wands are placed in the too hard basket, Remington 4 in 1 Adjustable Waver, $149.95, can easily create soft to intense mermaid waves.
Shea, macadamia, babassu, moringa and meadowfoam seed oils in Hair Rituel by Sisley Restructuring Nourishing Balm, $165, feeds and replenishes lipid-dry damaged hair overnight.
