Sara Higgins, Holistic Pharmacist And Founder of Hana On The Main Challenges For Women In Business
To me success means…
Being able to do what I love every day and inspiring the people around me to find their passion so they can be the best version of themselves.
Best advice I’ve been given…
Never take things personally, especially in business situations. This advice was received early in my pharmacist career and has been instrumental in helping me throughout my career.
The most rewarding part of my job…
Supporting clients through their health challenges. I have always loved helping people and being on a chronic health journey of my own, I feel even more pulled toward helping others on their journey.
Getting positive feedback from clients about how their health has improved from our treatments brings me immense joy. My vision for Hana was to create a space where one can take time out for themselves while also achieving therapeutic benefits from the treatments – bridging the gap between healing and relaxation.
My goals for the next 12 months are…
To create a community at Hana. Educate women and men about the need for slowing down and prioritising all aspects of their health and wellbeing, and building awareness about the numerous health benefits of infrared saunas and red/near infrared light therapy.
The main challenge for women in business is…
The expectation that one has to do it all – be a mother, be a CEO, be a homemaker… the list goes on. We are not designed to live these intense and fast-paced lives and women are burning out trying to manage it all.
Learning how to prioritise self-care is critical to a well-balanced and joyous life.
Diversity in the workplace is…
Critical to building strength in an organisation. Having worked in a predominantly female industry (pharmacy) for over a decade, diversity has been more focused on ethnicity, cultural background, age, religion, etc.
Leading a small team now, my focus is on creating diversity through different cultural backgrounds, age, education, abilities and personalities.
The change I want to see in 2020 is…
A shift in the way ‘healthcare’ is viewed. The current model of healthcare is more ‘sick’ care. As a society, more emphasis needs to be placed on preventative health and taking care of oneself in a more holistic way – including our emotional and mental health, not just the physical.
