Trans-Seasonal Tresses With Tāne Tomoana
7 Tips To Keep Your Hair Healthy This New Season
Words by Tāne Tomoana, Creative Lead at Dry & Tea Australasia
With a new season, it is paramount we address the damage caused by living life, with added stress from heat styling. Without protecting your hair and scalp, it is stripped of moisture and natural oils and can become brittle and damaged. Your hair is just like your skin and can burn in the sun.
Here are some of my top tips to salvage your lockdown hair so that you step into the new season like you just stepped out of the salon.
1. START WITH A FRESH CUT
The best way to start the trans-seasonal period is to get the chop. Short hair cuts can be freshened up, medium lengths can be brought up to shoulder and the ends blunt, while long hair can be layered. For an easy change add some 70’s inspired bangs. The most important part of this is that we cut off all the damaged ends.
2. CHANGE UP YOUR COLOUR
This is the perfect time for a big change, think warmer peachy blondes, strong iridescent coppers and rich, smokey, cool chocolates. Also, cutting down on over-highlighting will help the hair recover damage a lot easier. A change can be as simple as a pastel toner or root shadow to create a more lived-in look.
3. TRY A NEW PRODUCT & CARE ROUTINE
With the new season comes new looks in our wardrobes, so why not change up your care routine too! This is a perfect time to change your shampoo and conditioner, your hair loves a change. The biggest point here is to make sure you choose products packed with moisturising ingredients to combat dryness and brittle ends.
4. KEEP IT SIMPLE
There is no need to be too high maintenance during the week, which is why buns, top knots, braids and ponies are perfect.
5. IN-SALON TREATMENTS
Make the most of the amazing technology on offer in salons all over the country. From a quick fix Fusio-Dose at the basin, to adding products like Smartbond or Olaplex to your next colour to keep optimum integrity and shine in the hair.
6. INSIDE OUT
Treat your hair from the inside out with the amazing array of supplements and collagens on the market. Diet is also extremely important to optimise the health of your hair. Foods high in protein, the building blocks of the hair, and healthy fats found in foods like avocado, salmon and nuts are perfect.
7. FRINGE BENEFITS
It is always the right time for a fringe. It’s not too humid and sweaty, a fringe is a lot easier to maintain. Curtain bangs are still as hot as ever.
