Dior: A Silhouette Revisited
The House of Dior has been fronted by many iconic designers since its inception in 1946. John Galliano, Yves Saint Laurent, Raf Simons and Marc Bohan have all made their mark on the luxury brand, and it is the latter designer who current Creative Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, has paid homage to in Dior’s Spring Summer 2022 Ready-To-Wear collection.
Designing for Dior for nearly 30 years, Bohan was credited with saving the brand with his Slim Look collection in the early 1960s, a leaner and slinkier version of Dior’s famous silhouette. Chiuri has revisited these famous 60s styles in this collection, with boxy cuts, refined coats, skirts, Bermudas, shorts, and dresses in yellow, green, red, navy, orange, and raspberry colour blocks. Materials such as scuba and nylon are utilised to add volume, with silhouettes made for making a statement on the dance floor. The collection as a whole embraces the changes we have seen in the world over the past 18 months, welcoming in a new language of meaning.
