A Shining Star
It’s not something that’s usually on the top of the priority list for people on the job hunt, but an office with a view is a real perk.
If on one end of the spectrum, you have the dreaded square office cubicle, where four white walls make up about as uninspiring of a backdrop as physically possible, the opposite end is what MAD Architects have on the horizon. The Star is a 22-storey masterpiece of aesthetic and practical architecture designed to welcome the outside world into the workplace. The defining characteristic of The Star is its embrace of the outdoors and the spark that the natural world can provide to the workplace, with its clear panelled walls inviting in the natural light, allowing those instead to feed off of the glorious energy of the outdoors.
The unique curved shell of The Star pays tribute to the iconic rolling Hollywood Hills, which will lie to its North, making it stand out prominently in amongst the magnificent Hollywood skyline. To be planted on the famed Sunset Boulevard, the building will provide stunning panoramic views of Tinseltown. Those views won’t be restricted to being savoured behind a glass window however, as the block with be equipped with a pair of open air ‘sky gardens’, allowing visitors to soak in the sunshine while taking in the fantastic landscape. Atop the remarkable structure will sit a restaurant and an event room which will no doubt provide a lookout that is second to none.
“Hollywood has been a signature centre for culture and creativity for a long time,” posits MAD Architects founding principal, Ma Yansong. “The Star will be the new iconic landmark in Hollywood and continue to nurture the public’s inspiration and creativity.”
Of course, a project of this magnitude is no walk in the park (particularly in the times we live in today), so The Star isn’t expected to become fully realised fixture of the Hollywood skyline for a little while yet. With the project having been submitted to the city’s planning department in September, the goal is to have The Star standing proudly in the Hollywood skyline by around 2026.
