Bold Desire: Still Reaching for the Life and Career you Desire?
Sometimes you have to shake things up and be bold to make it happen. We are certainly living in turbulent times which are causing us to reconsider how we do things as a global community, so why not how we ourselves persue our dreams? As Albert Einsten is quoted as saying ‘You can’t use an old map to explore a new world’.
With bold desire the precursor to success, clarity is key. If we understand where we are and see where we want to get to, being clear as to what is getting in the way, we can create the most direct roadmap to our destination. So where is it you want to get to in either your personal life or career? Say it aloud, talk about your goals, even if they seem far-fetched, this will build your conviction. Honestly assess those roadblocks.
We are what we believe, with life in effect a self- fulfilling prophesy. If we believe we are unable to achieve something, chances are we won’t be able to, the manifestation of our reality impacted not only by our energy but by our thinking. You may have heard the saying ‘what we think about we bring about’. I have vivid memories of that darn vault in gym class at school that my mind clearly and consistently told me I was never going to get over and you know what – I never did! As a consequence, I never tried again! Not only do I recall that humiliating experience but I can actually sense what it felt like even to this day, many years later. I’m sure we all have a similar memory. Now I’m not saying that if I had simply thought I was going to fly over the vault like a seasoned gymnast that I would have, but that thought would have inspired the necessary action to bring it about. If I had thought I could do it I would have practised in this belief and in doing so I have no doubt that my experience would have been different. The moral of the story being that we all need to pay attention to our inner dialogue which not only has the ability to condition but to control us. A salient point of focus not only for us in persuing what we desire, but for the conversations we have with our own children and teams.
The more chances we take, the more likely we are to succeed, so on your journey of boldness don’t let the fear of failure stop you from dreaming and actioning your dream. You will be one step closer to accomplishing your goals if you continually try new things, accepting the risk – seeing each new experience (even if things don’t work out as planned) as a gift of awareness, a learning opportunity, a clear steer as to what could be done differently next time. Let’s face it – we all fail with this often not comfortable experience. The key is to realise and accept that our failures sit in the past with the way forward being to look to the future with a positive, curious and can-do mindset – after all, what have we got to loose? Get comfortable with being uncomfortable, they say. Actions gather confidence, speed and power to drive our dreams forward with momentum, while building our resilience. So be open to learning from your experiences gladly, and boldly, stepping up to the plate for more.
We all tend to think we see the world as it as, that we are objective, but the truth is we see the world as we are, from our own perspective, which is shaped by our experiences. Consider how we each saw and reacted to the Covid pandemic – many different perspectives of the one event, shaped by a variety of factors including our fears, beliefs, personal history and physical wellbeing. How is your view of the world impacting your current path to achieving what you desire? If you understand this, you may more readily accept that we have the power to choose how we want to see the world in creating our own reality.
So it’s time to be bold in persuing the life or career that we desire. Ruthlessly challenging what we believe, our inner dialogue and view of the world in taking steps to create our own reality.
