Frank Gehry And Louis Vuitton
Gehry iconic buildings are seen all over the world, from the Guggenheim Museum in Spain to the Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA. Known for his unusual and experimental work, Canadian architect, Frank Gehry, is considered one of the most important designers of his generation. And now he has turned his talents to designing outside of the architecture realm with a recent collaboration with Louis Vuitton.Â
Collaborating with the Louis Vuitton’s in-house Master Perfumer, Jacques Cavallier, Gehry has, for the very first time, turned his hand to perfume bottle design with the new release of the Les Extraits Collection.
Expressing movement in a static form, the bottle was inspired by Gehry’s own passion for sailing. Working with the original bottle designed by Marc Newsom, Gehry worked straight lines into ellipses and altered curves into an arc. Moulding a sheet of aluminum until it resembled crumpled paper, the cap tops the bottle in graceful shape, hand polished and stamped with the LV seal to complete it. Resembling the spirit of freedom expressed by a sail, the bottle gives a movement to the inanimate, creating fluidity and transparency. A master in creating form, Frank Gehry’s latest creation leaves us with those same feelings of liberty and expansiveness one can only acquire from the sea.
