Editor’s Letter – Summer 2022
While the new year seems to be the time to lay down or recap those big ambitious goals, I got thinking a little more about the small things this summer. On New Year’s day, our family headed to the beach with some friends and took part in their annual ritual to welcome in the New Year by jumping seven waves. This is a tradition that has made its way from the beaches of Rio and has been passed down from generation to generation.
While Piha might not quite have the same buzz as a Brazilian beach, this special ritual made for a magical and memorable moment. And there might be nothing overtly profound or empire-building about an act such as this but over time, it has created a legacy of small moments that connect friends and family and span time. This has inspired me to set aside the big goals for the time being to focus on the little things, the special observances that help us live more in the moment and not just in the future.
