Everything Foodies Need to Know this May/June
The upcoming winter months means we’ll be spending nights wrapped up indoors, fearful of the icy chill awaiting us outside. Summer dreams of eating alfresco are quickly shut down and takeout is ordered in. Harbourside Ocean Bar Grill in Auckland is treating outdoor eating fans to the best of both worlds with an dining igloo installed on their terrace, giving patrons the beautiful view over Auckland Harbour, while keeping them cosy and warm. The snug and charming igloo, complete with fairy lights, floor rugs and heating, offers diners a ‘Dining Under the Stars’ degustation of four or eight course menus, while taking in the nighttime vista. The four course option offers a broad menu, including oysters, sashimi and seared duck breast, while the eight course selection has a heavy emphasis on seafood, with seared Atlantic scallops and hapuka carpaccio on offer. Both menus have the option to upgrade with wine and Champagne Mumm matches, so one can enjoy the igloo oasis in style.
Coffee Craft
The art of the perfect milky coffee is a tricky one to crack at home, with self-made lattes never quite tasting like their barista-made counterparts. Luckily, Nespresso have got our backs with their latest coffee pod flavours giving us the perfect milky brew, without the trip down to your local coffee shop. After going through 120 prototypes, Nespresso have released the Barista Creations Range, which has been crafted to highlight the alchemy between the coffee and milk, giving your cappuccino, latte or flat white that barista-quality taste. The range of three flavours are available in a sleeve of 10 recyclable aluminium capsules for $9.50 from Nespresso boutiques or their online store.
Indecisive Dining
Sid Sahrawat’s bevy of three restaurants are amongst some of the most loved and lauded in Auckland. Yet the hard-earned reputations of Sidart, Cassia and Sid at The French Cafe make it hard to choose which one to dine at. Sid is solving our indecisiveness with his new monthly event, Test Kitchen Tuesday, where he will cook, plate, and introduce two dishes from each of his restaurants for a limited number of 30 guests at the private dining room of Sid at The French Cafe. Taking place on the first Tuesday of each month, starting June, diners will also be treated to canapes, drinks, after dinner tea and coffee, while enjoying the different cuisines Sahrawat has become famous for in a social and intimate setting.
