As we welcome the new season, refresh your home’s look with new trends, scents and home ware ranges.
Millennial Pink
If you were hoping the swathes of pink that are in the stores was going to start dissipating, you are not in luck, as millennial pink is here to stay in 2018. While it may be very Elle Woods meets Barbie’s dream house, this eye-catching hue is settled in our society. To embrace the trend in a new-season way, start to mix it with darker, berry hues for the cooler seasons ahead of us, or mix it with greenery. Both of these are lusted-after 2018 trends. Here are some of our favourite, grown up, millennial pink pieces.
From rattle to chair
In a day and age where the importance of recycling and reducing plastic usage cannot be shared enough, it is no surprise one brand is looking to the newest generation for help.
EcoBirdy, a new Belgian brand, debuted a collection of children’s furniture made entirely from recycled plastic toys at this year’s Maison&Objet furniture fair. The range consists of a table, chair, lamp and a storage container, all of which have child-friendly rounded edges and speckled surfaces. In order to educate the younger generation, EcoBirdy encourages adults to collect their children’s broken toys and drop them in EcoBirdy containers to help with the process. While donating is difficult for New Zealanders, you can still purchase the range online.
Black Is The New… Black
Gone is the love affair with white on white kitchens, as one of the biggest 2018 kitchen design trends sees us taking a walk on the dark side. From cabinets and large stainless appliances, to fixtures and smaller matte appliances, black is back with a vengeance in Europe. It’s a sleek tone, offering a sophisticated yet dramatic impact to a room that is more and more often used as a hub of the home, and not just a space for meal preparation. Breville’s new range features its most popular appliances in a sophisticated black with classic chrome accents. Another design tick‑box filled by these appliances is the matte finish, something in vogue in Europe. It doesn’t matter if you want to take baby steps into the trend, or start painting and pulling out cabinetry, these are a good place to start for the 2018 look.
