Your Say – Vicki Scott
LAWYER AND BUSINESSPERSON – OWNER OF CRIMSON ORGANIC TAMPONS
Best advice I’ve been given…
Was from a retiring partner in a law firm when I was just starting out – “back your own judgment and don’t listen to others who suggest you have it wrong just because they think they have it right.”
I’d name my autobiography…
My Dog is a Good Therapist
To me success means…
The freedom to spend time with my family and friends, and do things I enjoy.
I made my first dollar…
When I was 12 years old working at a corner dairy (Phillips Store, Raureka) for $2 an hour.
The most rewarding part of my job…
Is getting emails from women who suffer from endometriosis and tell me how grateful they are to have finally found a tampon that works for them.
Life Motto:
Attitude is Everything.
Favourite Book:
The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah
My goals for 2018 are:
Be brave.
The women who inspire me
Every day women who achieve extra-ordinary things eg Rosa Parkes, Malala Yousafzai, and NZ Equal-Pay Campaigner Kristine Bartlett.
The gender stereotype I can’t stand
That childcare is a female responsibility. Many times as a lawyer I have been asked ‘Who looks after your children while you work?’ My husband who is also a lawyer has never been asked this.
The main challenge for women in business is…
Having confidence.
We need pay equality because…
Equality is a fundamental human right. It needs no justification. Just action.
Gender diversity in the workplace is…
A no brainer. Research has overwhelming shown that more diverse workplaces perform better than less diverse workplaces in terms of decision making and profitability.
I advocate for change by…
The choices I make and by championing a cause such as ending period poverty.
The change I want to see in 2018 is…
GST being removed from menstrual products to make them more affordable for more women.
